Supercapacitors can be thought of as tiny batteries with much longer life. They have about 5% of the energy of a Lithium Ion battery (5 Wh/Kg). But they have much higher power density (more than 2000 W/Kg), and can last for more than 20 years. Most Lithium Ion batteries typically last for about 1000 cycles, require careful monitoring of charging and discharging, and will not work at temperatures below -20C. Supercapacitors will last for more than 1,000,000 charge discharge cycles, and function more reliably at much lower and higher temperatures. For example at -20C, most batteries are severely derated and cannot provide enough energy to crank an engine. Our Supercapacitors though losing half their power have sufficient power (1000 W/Kg) to power an engine at this temperature. Please click on "Technical Papers" above for more information. Unlike batteries, Supercapacitors can also be stored for many years and then expected to start working reliably immediately upon use. Unlike competitive capacitors that are over-big, over- Whenever a battery-operated device is used, power diminishes. Sooner or later the battery loses power and performance is compromised. Solution: spec an OptiXtal SuperXcap into the design and your battery will last far longer. Regardless of the number of succeeding usage cycles, the device will never be underpowered by a dissipated source until the battery is completely depleted. SuperXcap capacitors store the charge between an ionically conducting electrolyte and a conducting electrode assembled in ultra thin pouches. Competitive capacitors are assembled by techniques that require them to be thick, bulky and heavy. Which makes them hard to work with … and even harder to work around. |
